Quilting Caveman Style (an improv piecing quilt class) starts December 5th and Runs through December 14th. It has been consolidated to end prior to holiday craziness. The pace is such that by just committing to an hour or two between classes, you'll mange very well in creating your own amazing quilt without using any pattern at all. We forego quarter-inch seams, and break a lot of the traditional quilting "rules". 


Ricky has been known as The Caveman Quilter for many years. The moniker is associated with quilting freely… without rulers, without measuring, and without using quarter-inch seams. Of course there are exceptions and Ricky will note those exceptions. Cavemen did have much smarts, but they did have... “the wheel” (insert rotary cutter). Essentially, this class is about creating improvisational patchwork and learning the methods and technique that enable quilters to work without a pre-planned pattern. It's freeing - fun - and therapeutic!!

The Caveman Quilting class begins with basic exercises using Ricky’s methods and will also focus on safety. The group will progress to making a small tulip project known as Chantelle. The subsequent lessons will give guidance on border options. This class is a prerequisite to Ricky’s Improvisational Patchwork class


By learning the processes Ricky shares, quilters will eventually be able to conceive ideas that they can implement using these improvisational methods. The project for this class will result in a relatively small wall quilt which can easily be completed during the class timeframe. Students will be able to explore multiple variations and perhaps even create multiple projects. 

Attendance and Interaction

All LIVE interactive sessions are recorded and will be available to view or reviewed anytime – forever. The classes are interactive. Ricky will provide links for photo sharing and provide guidance and input for each quilter in the class. 

Schedule and Timing Conflicts

If you cannot make a LIVE presentation, it will be posted within a couple of hours and you can watch anytime after that. We realize folks around the world live in greatly diverse time zones and meeting LIVE at a specified time might be inconvenient. The video recordings will enable anyone around the world to participate.

Supplies Needed
Prior to class you will not need anything. You will primarily use fabrics from your stash.  Basic sewing supplies. Rotary cutter with fresh sharp blade and cutting mat.
