Machine Quilting Fundamentals is a long-overdue, highly-requested class. Award-winning quilter, Ricky Tims, leads this interactive online class that covers a variety of machine quilting basics. Most topics are applicable to both domestic and longarm machine quilters. Students will progress through exercises that are designed to foster smooth and accurate control of free-motion designs. Ricky’s marking methods will be explored and students will learning to create original designs based on simple concepts. In addition, free-motion, improv, unmarked quilting will also be featured during the course. A brief look at ruler-work (both domestic and longarm) will appear in the curriculum. Details such as workspace setup and other critical aspects for successful machine quilting will be presented.

Each LIVE session will last approximately one hour. Between sessions, students should plan to practice the various exercises, make samples, and focus on learning. This course will not cover how to specifically quilt your master quilt, nor will it be about how a particular quilt should be quilted. Those topics will be presented in a subsequent follow-up course that will be available for those who want to pursue machine quilting beyond the basics outlined in this course. This course is a prerequisite to Ricky’s Advanced Machine Quilting course.

Practice is Required
Success in machine quilting requires practice. Students should plan to allocating time to practice the exercises that are presented.

Attendance and Interaction
Should you have to miss a LIVE session, or live in a time zone that make attaining the LIVE sessions challenging, please know…all of the LIVE interactive sessions will be recorded and will be available to view or be reviewed anytime. The recorded sessions are posted and remain in your class library – forever. The classes are interactive. Ricky will provide links for photo sharing and provide written guidance and input for each quilter in the class. 

Schedule and Timing Conflicts
If you cannot make a LIVE presentation, not to worry! It will be posted within a couple of hours and you can watch anytime after that. We realize folks around the world live in greatly diverse time zones and meeting LIVE at a specified time might be inconvenient. The video recordings will enable anyone around the world to participate.
