This is Part 1 of Ricky's LocoMotion: Conquering Curves class. Students who complete this class will be offered the opportunity to take MoLocoMotion—an advanced continuation of this course. LocoMotion has quickly become one of Ricky's most popular classes. Prepare to amaze yourself with quilting creative you may never have thought possible.
Break free from blocks and sewing straight seams. Find freedom in curved piecing and learn a precision technique without using quarter-inch seams. This is a design-it-yourself class that is presented with LIVE interactive sessions. If you can't attend live, you will still have full access to all sessions - forever. You receive personal suggestions and guidance from Ricky. LIVE sessions are recorded, posted, and then available forever. If you have to miss a session, no problem—you'll have access to it anytime...forever.
The gist of this class is for each person to create an original, curve-pieced, artful quilt—a wall-quilt—that is innovative and aesthetically pleasing featuring curves, orbs, and other non-traditional designs. It will not feature squares, triangles, etc, which are common for patchwork designs. See the gallery above for examples of what previous students achieved.
The class project is for learning purposes and will inspire you to make something more complex at a later date. Not only will you learn to design using pieced curves, you'll learn Ricky's easy, no-pins technique to accurately reproduce your design in fabric.
It is vital that you enter class with the understanding that you are creating a class project - not your next masterpiece. Simplicity and manageability will be strongly recommended and encouraged. A project that can be created and finished within the class time frame is vital.
As a bonus, you will explore ways to create transparency in your design. Set your doubts and fears aside. This will be surprisingly easy and you’ll be going crazy for curves going forward.
A virtual class community is built and participant sees what the other participants are creating. The ideas and concepts of others will be appreciated. You will receive written suggestions and critiques and can expect to draw inspiration from other students for ideas and suggestions.Sessions will be presented via Zoom. No additional software is required.ScheduleThere will be six LIVE sessions via Zoom on the following dates. Sessions run approximately one hour. Please note that the first three class dates are spaced closely within the first week... and then more time is allotted between classes to allow for sewing progress. Each student will post photos of their progress. The entire class sees everyone's progress and everyone can read Ricky's comments and suggestions on all posts.

WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND THE ZOOM AT THE SCHEDULED TIME?
This is not a problem. The Zoom sessions are recorded and will be posted within 2-3 hours of the conclusion of each Zoom session. You can watch them and proceed at your own pace. Even if you cannot participate on the days listed above, you have full access to the lessons forever and can go at your own pace if that is preferred. Ricky provides personal written comments on submitted images, not during the LIVE sessions. So you will get your evaluations in writing as class progresses.
The class is presented with LIVE Zoom sessions that are recorded. In the event you cannot attend the LIVE session, the video will be posted for your review. All sessions, information, links, and videos are yours forever. You can review the course anytime, as often as you wish—forever!
